For smart city projects to be truly successful, they require a high level of citizen engagement, participation and satisfaction. This is why everything Smarter Together does is focused on improving the lives of citizens.
In the lighthouse city of Munich, a smart data platform was set up to provide an open, secure and city-wide data platform to be used to develop smart services and integrated into the SmartCity app. The platform acts as a data ‘backbone’ to collect, process, analyse, interpret, store and distribute data in a way that turns ‘big data’ into ‘smart data’, which improves urban planning and adds to the quality of life in the city.
The Munich SmartCity app has been integrated with the former Munich app which had more than 450,000 downloads and will now include leisure, mobility and citizen services in one application. The combination will provide functions such as search, cinema programs and event calendars with an integrated route planner and an interactive map including mobility services as well as bicycle or pedestrian routes. Munich’s municipal service offerings will also be shown on the map, for example one can get a new ID card or see job offers as well as find information from relevant offices, authorities or institutions, giving citizens personal access to the ‘intelligent city of tomorrow’. The app is available on iOS and android and more information about the work of Smarter Together in Munich can be found in our Knowledge Carrier here.
