Implementation status

In which phase is the project? Tick the right box in the table below.
Implementation phase
What is the current implementation status/ what is the current activity step?
The renovation work started in April 2017.
Is the implementation process on time or are there any deviations (time wise)? Please outline any changes and reasons.
No, 6 months in delay as a result of legal matters. (Objection of tenants and the process of an arbitration board)
Have there been changes regarding the planned solution?
Please indicate the most relevant deviations from the original plan during the reporting period in the table below.
Most relevant: Solar thermal collectors instead of the planned PV modules, due to too little space for a thermal storage. The energy output will be the same.
What are the main improvements achieved since the last reporting period?
The start of the building measures due to the positive decision of the arbitration board.
Please shortly outline the next steps planned for the implementation of the project.
The finishing of the façade and the renovation of the heating systems of the staircases 1 and 2  in December 2017.
Corrective actions
Corrective actions are actions that are taken by the project partners to handle the barriers or to make use of the drivers to reach the project’s objectives. What are the three most important activities you have taken to respond to the barrier and support the drivers?
Most important:
Description of the activity (max one sentence): Stronger involvement of the tenants and building of confidence,
When and why was the action taken?
From the beginning on
What was the impact of the action on the project processes?
Positive decision of the arbitration board, Positive attitude of the tenants, identification with the project
Second most important:
Description of the activity (max one sentence): Change to PV system
When and why was the action taken?
Planning phase
What was the impact of the action on the project processes?
Still use of renewables

Which risks & challenges is the project currently facing?

Time delay

Which are critical or seem invincible? Please provide a detailed description

None.

Which previously identified risks and challenges have you managed successfully and how

The arbitration board and the increased communication with the tenants solved the objections of the tenants.

Which lessons learned can be derived up to this point from the implementation process?

Have external recommendations / lessons learnt from other projects (not in the WIKI) been used for the project development?
- If yes, which ones and how?
- Would this example be a good add to the Wiki?

No
Have relevant internal recommendations / lessons from the WIKI’s best practices been used for the project development?
- If yes, which ones and how?

No
Has the project development / implementation been supported by the SMARTER TOGETHER peer-to-peer knowledge exchange and cooperative problem solving?
- If yes, how?

No
What lessons / recommendations can be derived up to this point from the implementation process?
Premature inclusion of the tenants is key.
What could be done better in comparable future projects (what needs to be done and what needs to be prevented)
Better communication with the tenants about the benefits resulting from refurbishment.
Would you describe the project as best practice project and interesting for the WIKI? If yes, in what regard?
Yes, process information to tenants.

Implementation status

In which phase is the project? Tick the right box in the table below.
Implementation phase
What is the current implementation status/ what is the current activity step?
The refurbishment of staircase 1+2 is finished. The staircases 3,7,8,9 are currently under construction.
Is the implementation process on time or are there any deviations (time wise)? Please outline any changes and reasons.
The refurbishment of the staircases 6,5,4 will start in 2018. The finalisation until February 2019 will be tight.
Have there been changes regarding the planned solution?
Please indicate the most relevant deviations from the original plan during the reporting period in the table below.
Most relevant: Solar thermal collectors instead of the planned PV modules, due to too little space for a thermal storage. The energy output will be the same.

The PV System will not be integrated into the façade but will be mounted on the roof. This is due to static reasons and will be done on the area of two staircases.
What are the main improvements achieved since the last reporting period?
The PV system is installed. The refurbishment of the first staircases was finished.
The next phase (staircases 3,7,8,9) of the refurbishment was started successfully.
Please shortly outline the next steps planned for the implementation of the project.
Preparation fort he last phase oft he refurbishment (staircases 6, 5, 4) will start and the ongoing refurbishment phase will be finished until the end of 2018.
Corrective actions
Corrective actions are actions that are taken by the project partners to handle the barriers or to make use of the drivers to reach the project’s objectives. What are the three most important activities you have taken to respond to the barrier and support the drivers?
Most important:
Description of the activity (max one sentence): The PV system will be installed on the roof. The collector surface area will be smaller.
When and why was the action taken?
The decision was made after the examination during the detailed planning phase.
What was the impact of the action on the project processes?
The impact isn´t too big. There will still be usage of RES technologies respectively renewable power. Although the area is smaller, the electricity yield will be similar to the initially planned façade system.
