Installation of battery storage and connection to the Virtual Power Plant
Munich Electric-Renewable Energy Sources
General facts
Installation of battery storage and connection to the Virtual Power Plant.
The battery storage unit in Freiham, which has a capacity of 1MW, creates a central feed-in point for surplus renewable energy from decentralized and private supply units (such as PV installations). The battery storage unit is a physical element of the virtual power plant provided by SWM, enabling participation in the supra-regional power network and contributing to the stability of the energy system.
The battery storage unit was installed in November 2017 and is in operation since April 2018.
The project is first of its kind in Munich. There is a strong in-house expertise about Virtual Power Plant in SWM. Expected efficiency gains through double functionality: storage of excess-power from PV in the district and participation in the German Market for market on balanced energy (“Regelenergiemarkt”)
