The selected winning project will be planned by next spring. Construction works will start in June 2018

What is the current implementation status/ what is the current activity step?

The EU wide tendering process is finished, and the preliminary draft is also finished. The submission of the final concept was at the end of October. Construction works (earth works) have already started
Is the implementation process on time or are there any deviations (time wise)? Please outline any changes and reasons.

The whole realisation project is still in the overall timeframe. 

The completion date of the gym will be postponed from September 2018 to February 2019. 
There is no more time buffer as the realisation projects have to be finished in February 2019.
The rest of the school extension will be in operation from September 2019.
Which project steps were performed since the last project reporting?

Detailed technical concept for Zero-Energy-Gym was developed withall preparation works;
Have there been changes regarding the planned solution? Please outline any changes and reasons.

The gym will be underground, partly under the extension building, partly under open areas. This enables a larger amount of open spaces for the pupils and sports areas at ground level are more high-grade than on the roof of the gym (as previously planned in the preliminary concept). Another advantage is that the break courts aren´t in the inner courtyard anymore but on open spaces behind the building. Therefore, the noise problem is solved.

The experiences from Dr. Susanne Geissler were very helpful. During a national project, she did a study about the operation performance of highly efficient (new and refurbished) schools with an additional focus on the comfort as well as the social usability. An exchange meeting took place with the relevant actors of the city, the winner team of the gym and Dr. Geissler.

The MA20 (municipal department for energy planning) should always be integrated in these processes (happens more and more already now)

An exchange meeting between the contracting authority, the planners, external experts and final users should be a fixed part of the process. This would include all of the experiences and needs early in the planning process and therefore, which would enable the optimisation of the final user comfort and the operation performance of the building.

What is the current implementation status/ what is the current activity step?

The building permit for the construction phases 1 and 2 does exist. (1 – demolition of the four container classes, open spaces for sports and district heating by pass; 2 – underground construction; 3 – building itself) 

Phase 1 is finished; Phase 2 is running.

The street on one side of the school area (Greifgasse) was closed – partly for construction equipment, partly as open spaces for pupils.

The finalisation of the whole project (gym and school extension) is planned for August 2019 and it will be in operation from September 2019 on.

An excursion to best-practice examples took place in spring. This led to an increase of knowledge. 

The final plan of the gym shows 2.000 m² less gross floor area but includes the same needed areas – this results in a decrease of investment from 32 Mio. to 26 Mio. €. This optimisation was achieved during the architectural competition.
